March 16, 2021 – The Open Radio Frequency Consortium (OpenRF™), an open industry association dedicated to creating a functionally interoperable hardware and software 5G ecosystem across radio frequency front-end (RFFE) and chipset platforms, today announced that NI has Join OpenRF™ and will chair the OpenRF™ Compliance Working Group. As a leading developer of automated test and measurement systems that help engineers solve the world’s toughest challenges, NI will partner with OpenRF™ to address the interoperability challenges facing the 5G ecosystem.
“We are delighted to welcome NI to OpenRF™ and lead our Compliance Working Group,” said Kevin Schoenrock, OpenRF™ Chairman. We will set out to develop a robust compliance program that will improve the cost, efficiency and time-to-market of OEM wireless devices.”
As 5G brings significant changes to the way we interact with each other, it also brings new ways to interact and test 5G devices. “Chen Zhang, Director of Strategic Business Development at NI: “As Chair of the Compliance Working Group, we are excited to partner with other companies to continue to meet the evolving needs of the industry and advance OpenRF™’s mission of accelerating 5G innovation and adoption.” “
OpenRF members are working together to develop an open framework to standardize the interface of hardware and software without restricting innovation, thereby benefiting the time-to-market, cost, performance and supply chain of 5G equipment OEMs. The OpenRF Working Group 5 – Compliance Working Group, formally established in January 2021, will develop a program to support a robust ecosystem of interoperable RF front-end and chipset platforms. OpenRF Release 3 – Compliance is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
